Grant Wood: A Life by R. Tripp Evans
I want to read this new biography about Grant Wood, which seems like it sheds some light on Grant Wood's possible gayness and that might make American Gothic the saddest painting ever.

Working non-stop on On The Beach and I'm having a really hard time with Bathers.
I'm feeling one of these two and going back and forth and right now the bottom one is winning out.

Only 3 weeks behind in email. And that's for real behind, not just like, "oh I'll get back to it later but I've read and answered most!" It's more like "Damn, if only I had read that time sensitive email that dying person in Cote d'Ivoire sent me, I could have gotten the 35 million dollars they said I was owed!"
Thanks to the great Carla Williams for asking me to come to RIT. I love Carla. RIT! You people made the right move hiring the genius who is Carla Williams!
It's a little torturous talking and talking about yourself but I got through it aok. What's so interesting is that I'm giving 2 more talks in the next 3 weeks and while they're similar, they all have a different emphasis. I'm giving a talk at ICP and it will be heavier on photography and theory and I'm giving a TED talk and it will be heavier on place and site-specificity of project.
Also, because I know Alex Mechanick will be watching the TED talk I will have to mention my most amazing achievement, reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy AND The Hobbit aloud to him and Brian. This art career is incredible and whatnot, but I'm talking Lord of the Rings here.

I Ain't Hov, I Just Know What I Know
My number 1 vice is driving: I love to drive. And driving by my lone allows me a luxury that can't exist in any other space, the luxury of repeated play of whatever music I want. In my household, my wife is in control of music selection almost all of the time. I'm more than ok with that. This is because she has excellent taste, and I often like to play the same song consecutively for hours at a time and even if it's something that one likes, generally no one wants to hear the same thing literally 50 times in a row.
My last trips to Syracuse have included these selections:
1. "Waterfall" by Cris Williamson
I can't get enough of this and I'm dead serious. I love it... filling up and spilling over, it's an endless waterfall.
2. "Flipside" by Freeway
I never tire of Flipside... bad bitches get scooped like Haagan Daas.
3. The Entire Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack.
This last trip found Rocky Horror on almost 4 hours of repeat. And may I put out there that this was not just listening, it was a full performance of the film viewing circa 1982, via TLA... thrill me, chill me, fulfill me, creature of the night.

Light Work
I came up with the intent of working full force on the big show but a few things happened that made me want to come back to On The Beach, which is new work I'm still thinking about and working on shooting and hadn't really thought that I was ready to come back to it. But it's been in my head and I saw this kid's bracelets at a Starbucks up here and knew I had to get to business.

I don't own a lot of art besides the "Rabbi on Black Velvet" from my grandparent's house, but I do own art by two of my favorite artists ever.
1. Liz Bonaventura. I am the proud owner of several of her early works, including "Trap Lady" and "Three Dancers."
2. Michael A. Macfeat. I am the proud owner of a "Concealed Weapon" and more recently, "Sluggo on Labrynths" from the "Sluggo Agonistes" series.

"Sluggo on Labrynths" by Michael Macfeat from the 2008 "Sluggo Agonistes" series.
I love Macfeat's work and he has a whole spectrum of great ideas, images and objects. But the Sluggo series, and "Sluggo on Labrynths" particularly, is transcendental to me. I am just blown away by it.
Sluggo Agonistes.
Thanks to my dagger Lizzy and my man Macfeat for helping a sister out with great beauty in my life.

An Update On Zoe Strauss's Relationship With Her Lady, Lynn Bloom
As many of you know, I have been with my lady for many years. For over 20 years as a matter of fact. But did you know this? I can't be any more in love with her. I am as in love with her as I was when we first started to date.
Also, none of the work I make would be possible without Lynn Bloom. No phone, no lights, no motor car. No nothing. That's all.

Brighton Photo Biennial 2010
In Brighton? Check out Queer Brighton.
And check out Molly Landreth's work!
There's an enjoyable difference between my work and Molly's work for this exhibit. Molly's work is about self identified LGTBQ folks and Brighton has a large and historic LGTBQ communinty. It's great to have a photographer work on document it. Yes, Molly!
But my work is about everyone who I met, and in the portraits the only queer for certain in the composition is the one who was taking the photo.

Also, the one below is a winner.

"Light Work was founded in 1973 as a non-profit, artist-run organization. We provide direct support to artists working in the media of photography and digital imaging through residencies, publications, exhibitions, a community-access digital lab facility, and other related projects."
